A Different Kind of Tax Form

In previous posts, we’ve discussed the idea of earmarking or restricting individual tax dollars for causes that you do or do not believe it. The folks at Restrict My Taxes have gone one further and actually put together a “tax form” exactly for that purpose. I love this idea and the execution is really clever. Check it out:

So they will just take more of someone else’s tax $$ to fund the projects I object to. This isn’t going to lessen the amount of money that goes to those areas.

So we vote for people who vote for tax laws to fund the projects they vote for so we’ll vote for them — and one more layer of voting will help? A system like this would just lead to giant abuses, since getting a pet project (like clean energy or bailouts) onto the list would be worth billions of dollars to the beneficiaries. Instead of spending amounts in the low billions on electing officials, we’d just see people spend many billions more on convincing people to vote for new policies.
