More Reasons to Love Massachusetts

by Kelly on November 15th, 2006

As if Tom Brady and Curt Schilling aren’t enough, Massachusetts has given some taxpayers yet another reason to be thankful:  Patriots Day.  The holiday, which honors the battles of Lexington and Concord during the Revolutionary Way is observed on the third Monday in April.  Yeah, April.  So you know what that means…  Tax Day!

The traditional Tax Day is April 15.  In 2007, April 15 falls on a Sunday which means that Tax Day is officially the next business day, or April 16, 2007.  However, this year, April 16, 2007 also happens to be Patriots Day.

Since it’s a state holiday, the IRS has decided that the next business day, April 17, 2007, will be "Tax Day" for all individuals in Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont and the District of Columbia.  Why all of those other folks?  The Service Center for IRS for many of those folks is located in Andover, Massachusetts.  Even if your return is to be directed outside of those states, the Service is allowing a one day "holiday" for residents of those states and the District of Columbia.

Enjoy the extra day!
