Probably 90% of our purchasing is done via credit card. So do I request a
W-9 from the credit card company since that is who I am cutting the check to... "Bank of America" is the vendor I am actually paying. Isn't it the credit card company's responsibility to obtain the W-9 from their different merchants/the stores we purchase from and issue the 1099? If I request a W-9 from every supplier, grocer, cell phone carrier I pay via credit card and the credit card companies do the same, then come time to issue 1099s, the amounts are actually overstated are they not?

I see some business folks on this site are still trying to "comply". Monica M
outlined the realities in brutal detail. Folks like me with some business ambitions but more common sense will take the more realistic path, we
won't go into "legitimate" business in the first place. many others here
will simply not be able to and will stop, no matter how much the IRS
threatens. You have to eat at some point, living out in the street is a
pain too, so is eating pet food.

Many folks here are also clinging to the dream that this will be repealed.
No such luck, the nick and dime breaking of the local stiff IS the objective.
Folks here need to stop pretending...sigh.
