		<description>This is a great post and a interesting story. You are so right that illegal income is taxable. Many people ignore reporting such income. I tried cases where a banker did not report his embezzelment income.  Of course, the fraud penalty applied. This will be an interesting civil fraud case.  The IRS will go after the civil side of this case after the prosecution is over. She will have to pay the tax and any penalty later in additon to her criminal conviction, if any.

I would like to try this case!
