IRS Imposes EIN Limits

The IRS has announced that as of May 21, 2012, it will issue only one employer identification number (EIN) per responsible party each day. The limitation applies to all requests online, by phone, fax or mail. No idea what this is about, folks, but I have to think it’s related to some kind of effort to curb abuse. According to the IRS web site, the point is “to ensure fair and equitable treatment for all taxpayers” which clears up any confusion… not at all. Change of EIN Email Scam Hitting Inboxes

If you read the blog regularly, you are aware that there are a bunch of emails that pop up from time to time purporting to be from the IRS, asking you to click on all kinds of links or submit personal information. This sort of thing is a scam. That said, a reader sent me a copy of the latest email making the rounds, asking if I’d seen it. I have and dismissed it.
