feed

I always appreciate your feedback – it’s good to know what you think I’m doing wrong (so that I can fix it) and what you think I’m doing right (so that I can do more of it).

A reader recently suggested that I tweak the subject lines of the emails in my feed to make it easier to identify. I think I’ve changed the email subject settings so that the subject of the post will show up in the subject of the email. If this works (and boy, I hope it does), it will help you identify and find posts in your inbox. If I’ve screwed it up, who knows what it will say. But rest assured, I’m on it.

Thanks to Konni for her suggestion. I hope that it makes taxgirl even better for all of my readers. If you ever have an idea for making the site better, drop me a line.

If you’re not subscribing via email, give it a whirl here. It’s free and easy (insert random inappropriate joke here).

And So It Goes…

January 26, 2009 · 6 comments

Google/Feedburner/thorn in my side swears that everything is working fine now. However, the feed count still continues to drop.

So, can I ask you a favor? If you normally subscribe to taxgirl via RSS, please make sure that you’re feeding to http://www.taxgirl.com/feed – you can also click on the little icon to the right. If you normally subscribe to taxgirl via email, make sure that you’re getting emails. If you’ve somehow been bumped off, click on the envelope to the right to re-subscribe.

*sigh* Maybe that’s all.

And now, I’ll return you to your normal taxgirl programming…

Google ate Feedburner

January 21, 2009 · 6 comments

As you may have heard, Google ate acquired Feedburner awhile back. As part of the inevitable, Google will phase out Feedburner feeds that don’t switch over to Google by February 28, 2009. In order to avoid having my readers run into nasty error pages, I went ahead and made the switch.

If you subscribe to my feed via RSS or email, you don’t have to do anything differently. Google swears that the update will be seamless. And we all trust Google, right?

That said, I have no idea how this will actually affect your feed. So, please, if you notice anything out of whack, let me know asap. I’ll do what I can to fix it… you know, cause Google and I are like *this* (picture me crossing my fingers).

Psst, if you haven’t subscribed, why in heaven’s name not? It’s easy, it’s fast and it’s free (please, no jokes about girls we all knew in high school – they might be reading this via Facebook).

Feed the World

September 29, 2008 · 1 comment

Thanks for all of your emails asking me what the heck was going on with my feed…

It’s a long, crazy story but the short version, more or less, is that my feeds crossed when I switched server. And the result is that many of you got double taxgirl feeds – or feeds with my other blog information – or some with both. It was a mess.

I was hesitant to delete the flawed feed. I kept staring at my feed list and hoping that there was some way to fix it without deleting it. There was no way round it – I had to just get rid of the old feed.

Hours later, it sank in that I lost several thousand subscribers. That’s a pretty bitter pill to swallow. But it is what it is.

So if you’re a regular reader, I really do hope you’ll pop back round. Please consider subscribing via email (there’s a feedburner form in my sidebar) or add me to your reader (you can do that using the feedburner info in the sidebar, too). I’ve also confirmed that the following URL does work:

http://www.taxgirl.com/feed

[Author's note: I have tried the above feed in Pageflakes, Yahoo, Google, Bloglines and as part of Mail's RSS delivery - it's working!!]

If you are using an old feed, please delete it as it is not 100% functional (links don’t work, etc.).

Thanks and hopefully, this is the last word you’ll hear on the subject – unless, of course, you don’t resubscribe, in which case you’ll have to hear me grovel.

Again, thanks for your patience! It is appreciated.

Feed Me!

28 September 2008

I know, I know. You’re tired of the renovations… Me too. But I’m almost back to normal…
The big elephant in the room? Feeds. Your old feed likely doesn’t work anymore, depending on how long you’ve been with taxgirl.com. You’ll need to try something new.
