Maybe it’s the sunshine that makes folks in San Francisco put off filing until the last minute… Whatever it is, San Fran topped the list of cities with the most residents stalling until the very.last.second to do their taxes.
Which cities rounded out the list? I’m proud to say that Philly didn’t make the top ten: as the nation’s first capital, I guess we feel an obligation to keep the government going.
But those slackers in Houston? Totally near the top. For the rest of the pack, check out Kay Bell’s post.
In 2007, BlogHer was in Chicago (great location, wonderful city). In 2008, BlogHer was in San Francisco: I made no secret about my disappointment with SF. I had waited, it felt like, eons to make it there and, well, it was no great shakes. Lovely weather, beautiful buildings but crazy expensive as all get out (don’t get me started), overrun with tourists and sadly, a really aggressive and disconcerting panhandling population. I don’t say that last bit lightly, as I live in a major city (Philadelphia) and am fairly well traveled. But this post isn’t about that. It’s about next year.
So now, the powers that be are plotting where to put BlogHer 2009. My answer? Philadelphia. It’s east coast, it’s an airport hub, we have trains, there are lots of great hotels and restaurants to fit all budgets. Yeah, that last part is key: it won’t cost you an arm and a leg. And Philly is friendly to bloggers.
But that’s just me.
If you’re a blogger and you’re thinking about BlogHer for next year, give the poll a whirl. It’s here:

I’d also love to hear your thoughts here on taxgirl!
I’m officially on my way to BlogHer!
The flight was remarkably full this morning as we pulled out of Philly. I guess that San Francisco is a pretty popular destination – and why not? The pilot announced that it was a chilly 51 degrees at take off – a far cry from the 93 degrees that they’re expecting in Philly.
I’m typing this on my new MacBook. The new keyboard is taking some getting used to. My old laptop had few discernible letters on the keyboard anymore – a product of lots of typing and occasionally (ok, more than occasionally) being ripped off by my children.
I made some noise about borrowing hubby’s laptop for the trip. Apparently this was more than he could bear so he brought a new one home just last night.
A few things are evident: this is a much newer screen, larger and brighter. My eyes are actually finding it a bit tough to adjust. I have battery life (excuse the giddiness). And perhaps most exciting, when I was charging up last night, I didn’t have to prop up the power supply to make sure that it stayed in the outlet. Yep, this is pure luxury.
Not such pure luxury is my trip on United. I haven’t flown United since last year when I went to Chicago. Let’s just say that things haven’t changed all that much (except for the fact that on a SIX hour flight, you have to pay for your meals) – and that’s not good thing. It’s a bit cramped and the air is apparently stuck at one speed – super fast. I feel like I’m on some kind of photo shoot where they want my hair to blow around a bit: Tax Attorneys of the ABA.
Three hours in – just three more to go. Maybe I can get some work done?
