Bloody confusing this year with all the "teasing" about the rebates. First there is then there isn't and then there is ! They should have made up their minds sooner!
Now it's April 14th and I'm screwed. All I get is a widows Pension,so I don't file; and today I see on this web site that you "have" to file to get this supposed rebate check in May.

None of the above!!

Hubby's student loan rehab just finished up. Until it is processed and back with the USDE we can't file or the return will be confiscated by the govt.

On the bright side, there are no late filing penalties if you are owed a refund...so I'll be calmly e-filing sometime in May or June.

I will hopefully will be at a tea party. With Obama-congress spending $1bn a minute, people need to stand up and protest. After eight years of never ending Bush spending, we now have a Pres that makes Bush look like a miser.
Social security is going broke, Medicare has basically already gone broke, the feds are rewarding bad behaviour everywhere they find it, and the congress and Pres have trillions of dollars worth of new obligations in mind for the ever shrinking group of income tax payers. Even though SS and Medicare are taxed separately, they will soon need influxes of cash from other sources such as general revenues to stay solvent. Massive increases in SS and Medicare tax will be incredibly unpopular since no one earning money will escape them, which will drive politicians to assess more income tax on those that pay while keeping their elected seat secure by making sure those effected the most are in the minority.
We are almost at a threshold where a majority of income earning Americans don't pay any income tax. We are essentially becoming of nation of representation w/o taxation. Soon we will not be able to stem the tide of entitlements because so few will have to pay for them. Once a majority of income earners do not have to pay income tax, there will be no electoral reason to stop the rampant spending and fiscal irresponsibility.
Obama talks of "having skin in the game." Soon, less than half of the income earners will have skin in the game.

Not only did I file and receive my refund weeks ago, but the IRS proceeded to write and say they increased our refund for the recovery rebate credit. Trouble is, they're wrong - we got our full credit last year. When I called and showed them the error of their ways, they said I needed to return the extra refund with an explanation before April 15. Ticked me off just a wee bit.
