My fiance claimed me & my kids for 2019 because he is the one that works in our home while I take care of our kids. I know that I WON’T get a stimulus check, but why didn’t my kids? He only received $1,200.00 for himself. Also, my ex is $13,332.00 in arrears for child support. I got some of his tax return & his OTHER ex wife got the rest. Will her & I get his stimulus check? Does he even qualify?
The children don’t qualify for the child tax credit (CTC) for your fiance since they aren’t legally his (the rules for the check rely on the CTC rules).
If your ex qualifies for a check, the regular offset program rules for child support will apply.
Can I get stimulus for child I didn’t file
Not automatically. You’ll need to claim the credit when you file in 2020.
I am on permanent disability and receive SSI/SSDI. My child is grown, 20 years old, and is working full time and receiving stimulus checks. I owe her mother over $8000 back child support and pay an agreed amount of $100 a month out of my $485 SSI/SSDI. She is working full time and receiving her stimulus checks. Now I really need that stimulus money but instead child support will intercept ALL of my stimulus money, giving her thousands of dollars which she will not give to my child. Leaving me broke and almost homeless soon. How is that fair?
It may not feel fair, but it’s the rule. I would highly recommend that you reach out to your Congressperson and let them know how you feel.
I receive Disability and have been for the past 10 yrs., I have been waiting on the stimulus payment for quite a while now and still nothing!! I did update my information, as well as, direct deposit info at the very beginning when the stimulus payments had started sending payments out!! I am NOT required to file a tax return, because I draw SSDI. The last tax return me and my now, ex-husband filed was in 2017.and I DID make sure that the direct deposit info that was on file for that year, is no longer valid!! I have checked out the “get my payment” to not avail., it continues to come back with, “your information is unavailable at this time”?? I do not understand WHY I continue to get this message!!! My eyes hurt so bad from looking up any and everything about the stimulus payment and where it may be!?!?! PLEASE HELP ME!!!????????????
Treasury began to distribute SSDI funds as of April 29. If your direct deposit info is updated, you should receive your payment soon. You might want to try the tool again. I’ve had readers who told me that they had to do it several times. Make sure you enter your address in exactly the same way as you entered it when you updated your info (since you don’t file a return).
