My family owns property in Wise County Texas that has two active natural gas wells on our property. I have been following the shale gas boom for some time now and have come to the conclusion that our government is turning a blind eye to this resource. Natural gas is available now and it is American. A quite revolution is taking place and has been for some time. Nat Gas will be a major player in the future. The problem is our government needs to endorse Nat Gas today, not tomorrow or sometime later.
The technology use to extract the gas from shale is advancing daily. The technology needed to use natural gas a transportation fuel has been around for many years and is being used around the world and in the United States by a very limited group.
Jobs are being created in the states located above the numerous American shale deposits. Reference the Marcellus Shale, The Bakken Shale, The Huron Shale, The Eagleford Shale and the Barnett Shale just to name a few. The Huron Shale is located mostly in Ohio, a state that needs jobs. Also, Michigan has an enormous shale deposit as well. Check out the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania and the jobs being created there. The opportunity to create jobs through the endorsement of shale gas is available right now in many areas all across America.
T. Boone Pickens’s plan has a lot of merits, merits that need to be taken seriously. Using natural gas has a huge upside from the lower carbon emissions, limiting the amount of oil we buy from countries that do not like us and most of all jobs will be created from building Nat Gas refueling station across the country and from new orders for Nat Gas powered vehicles.
The residual effect from endorsing Nat Gas a transportation fuel will be enormous if nothing more than a feel good commitment to wean the US from foreign oil and cut carbon emission created here in the USA.
I honestly believe our next “big idea” will be in energy. Maybe Nat Gas will not solve all of our problems with job growth and dependency on foreign oil but Nat Gas will make a big hit.
