It’s a wrap! Thanks to everyone who submitted charities for my 12 Days Of Charitable Giving 2016.
If you missed one of the charities, here’s the complete list:
Day 1: Technoserve
Day 2: Cure Alzheimer’s Fund
Day 3: Committee To Protect Journalists
Day 4: charity: water
Day 5: The Forge Initiative
Day 6: Police Unity Tour
Day 7: Alex’ Lemonade Stand
Day 8: Chapel Haven
Day 9: Puppies Behind Bars
Day 10: Pay Your Tuition
Day 11: Newseum
Day 12: Lexi’s LAMB
If you submitted your favorite charity this year and you don’t see it on the list, please try again next year! I received some great suggestions this year, and I could only feature twelve total.
Remember: submissions to the 12 Days of Charitable Giving are made by readers, and in most cases, I can’t personally vouch for the good work that these folks do. So be generous. But be smart. Do your homework.
For tips on making charitable donations count for tax purposes, check out this prior post.
Remember that you can always check whether a charitable organization is in good standing by using the IRS’ Exempt Organizations Select Check tool. Remember that certain organizations like churches and governmental units may not be listed. Additionally, organizations which use a “doing business as” or DBA, may appear on the list using a different name. If you don’t see a name on the list, reach out to the organization directly for more information.
Gifts made to qualifying charitable organizations by year end are tax deductible for the 2016 tax year. Gifts made to qualifying charitable organizations after January 1, 2017, are tax deductible for the 2017 tax year.
