It’s the first day of my 12 Days of Charitable Giving for 2018. Readers have suggested deserving charities over the past few weeks, and I’ll be posting one a day for – well, 12 days. (I’m clever that way.) Today’s charity is The Womens Tax Resolution Center, Inc.
The Women’s Tax Resolution Center, Inc. (WTRC, INC.) is dedicated to providing free tax services to improve the lives of low-income women living in Los Angeles County. Women who are experiencing difficult times and are burdened by tax debt due to loss of career, domestic abuse, divorce, catastrophic illness, and other personal circumstances often they do not have the economic resources to afford representation by an experienced tax professional. The goal of WTRC is to provide free, competent professional tax representation to low-income women in Los Angeles County.
- Preparation of current and prior-year tax returns
- Audit representation
- IRS installment payment plans
- Offer In Compromise (OIC) representation
- Innocent Spouse representation
- Preparation of amended tax returns
Applicants to the program must reside in Los Angeles County; file as single, head of household or married filing separately; and report gross annual income of less than $50,000. However, taxpayers with a higher income who have special circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
A recent client said about the program:
Recently divorced, I was faced with a huge tax debt. I was completely overwhelmed and fearful of facing the IRS alone. Then I heard about The Women’s Tax Resolution Center. David took the time to review my case, explain all my options and advocate for me. I could not have afforded the representation they provided. Now my tax situation is manageable because of the help and dedication of The Women’s Tax Resolution Center.

To find out more about the work of the organization, check out their website, like them on Facebook, connect on LinkedIn or follow them on Instagram or Twitter.
I often suggest checking out third-party sites like Charity Navigator for more information about charitable organizations, including evaluations and access to tax forms and other financials. Women’s Tax Resolution Center is not ranked by Charity Navigator. Charity Navigator explains, “It simply means that the organization does not meet our criteria. A lack of a rating does not indicate a positive or negative assessment by Charity Navigator.” You can check out this handy guide, Evaluating Charities Not Currently Rated by Charity Navigator, for more information.
Remember: Submissions to the 12 Days of Charitable Giving are made by readers, and in most cases, I can’t personally vouch for the good work that these folks do. So be generous, but be smart: Do your homework.
