Time Flies

Kelly Phillips ErbJanuary 28, 2007November 30, 2019

As posted before, you may have a day or so extra to file your taxes this year. The IRS confirmed that the tax deadline this year will be Tuesday, April 17, 2007, for all taxpayers.  The extra time is because April 15 falls on a Sunday in 2007, and the following day is a holiday in D.C. and in Massachusetts.  Whereas the April 17 deadline had previously applied just to individuals in the District of Columbia and six eastern states who file at Andover, MA, the deadline now applies to the following (though not limited to these, check irs.gov or with your tax professional if you have questions):

  • All 2006 federal individual income tax returns
  • All requests for an automatic six-month tax-filing extension (remember, however, that an extension is only for the time to file, not the time to pay)
  • Tax year 2006 balance due payments
  • Tax year 2006 contributions to a Roth or traditional IRA
  • Individual estimated tax payments for the first quarter of 2007
  • Individual refund claims for tax year 2003, where the regular three-year statute of limitations is expiring

So, you’re probably covered.  But then, you wouldn’t wait until the last minute, would you?
