Roll Out The Red Carpet For Awards Season

Kelly Phillips ErbNovember 27, 2012July 2, 2020

I am honored and flattered to announce that editors of the ABA Journal have selected my blog, taxgirl, as one of the top 100 best blogs in their annual Blawg 100. The Blawg 100, an annual compilation of the best blogs written by lawyers, is in its sixth year. ABA Journal Editor and Publisher Allen Pusey said, about the decision this year:

Each year, our choices become tougher. Blogging has become such a staple of professional communication that keeping up with our own directory of more than 3,500 blogs by lawyers, judges, law professors or even law students is more formidable than it’s ever been.

For those of you not in the legal profession, the ABA Journal is the flagship magazine of the American Bar Association, and it is read by half of the nation’s 1.1 million lawyers every month. It covers the trends, people, and finances of the legal profession from Wall Street to Main Street to Pennsylvania Avenue. It’s what I read faithfully while in law school and even appeared in once or twice as a young lawyer. It is, in my world, kind of a big deal.

Of course, if you read the blog on a regular basis, you know that I’ve been nominated once or twice (or three or four times) before. Yes, I am officially the Susan Lucci of the ABA Journal Blawg 100. If you have a moment to make me the Sally Field of the ABA Journal Blawg 100 (You like me! You really like me!), I would really appreciate it. No pressure. You can vote by clicking here and no, you don’t have to be a lawyer or a member of the ABA to vote. You can find me alphabetically (look for Taxgirl not Phillips or Erb or any other names people might call me) or by category. I’m in the “Niche” category since Taxes aren’t sensational enough to warrant their own category like Crim Law. I’m telling myself that’s better than the other categories because it sounds French.

I am very grateful to the editors at the ABA Journal for giving me the nod. It is, all snarkiness aside, a terrific compliment to be recognized in this way.

I’m also thankful to my readers who make it so fun to do this every day (okay, mostly every day). I’ve said it many times before but it’s true that I have the best readers in the blogosphere. Trust me. I read a lot of blogs and I read a lot of comments. I hang out with writers and I listen to them complain about lack of community. I don’t have that: you guys are the tops.

And I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to my über editor, Janet Novack, who called me up one day and suggested I give Forbes a try – she’s been terrific and I am so appreciative of the opportunity to be at Forbes.com with such amazing writers. I should also give a quick wink and a smile to the amazing Kashmir Hill – also a staff writer at Forbes – who got a nod in the Blawg 100, too, for her privacy blog, The Not So Private Parts (she’s in the Legal Technology category so you can vote for her – and for me – without guilt).

I know this post is a little self-indulgent. I would apologize except that I’m not actually sorry. I really am honored to be nominated and I really am very grateful to all of you for your support. And sometimes, that kind of stuff needs to be said. Thank you.
