In one of the more bizarre political alignments, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has recently voice his support for… Jersey Shore’s Snooki. Snooki lamented in a recent preview that “I don’t go tanning anymore because Obama put a 10% tax on tanning. And I feel like he did that intentionally for us.”
Snooki is, of course, referring to the excise tax on tanning which was pushed through as part of the health care reform bill.
McCain reached out to Snooki via Twitter:

And yes, it looks like someone has been practicing their texting: despite the lack of vowels, the tweet came from a verified Twitter account for Sen. McCain (@SenJohnMcCain). The tweet was directed to the Twitter account for Snooki (@Sn00ki) who retweeted with a response:

I know my Dad is reading this thinking, “What is a Snooki?” To clarify, Snooki is NOT what you bought Mom for the house – that’s a Snuggie. Snooki is a character on MTV’s controversial “Jersey Shore” – her full name is Nicole Polizzi. So now you know.
And while I don’t get tweeted by McCain, I’m on Twitter, too. You can follow me @taxgirl.

This just cracked me up!
This was a smart move on the part of the McCain campaign. This demonstrated he has a sense of humor while bringing attention to the tanning tax.
This is really sad when you realize that John McCain has had multiple cases of skin cancer. He should be the first one advocating the dangers of artificial tanning.
Saying “I recommend sunscreen” reminds me of when you hear a parent exclaim, “put on a sweater before you go outside”.
