Free & Low-Cost Aid Available

In response to queries about finding low cost or free legal advice, the folks at Avvo sent me some information about their services:

Avvo is free, both for attorneys and consumers. Consumers can get free legal guidance at Avvo Answers. We have recognized that a fair number of these questions come from people who either cannot afford an attorney or whose problem requires more of an advocacy or non-legal solution.

To help address these needs, Avvo has created a page of free and low-cost legal resources for all 50 states and Washington, DC. Avvo sends a link to this page in response to all questions in our Q&A forum that remain unanswered after one week.

  1. The main resources for low or no cost legal help will be your local law school(s), the local bar association and non-profit referral services.

Although Avvo is a wonderful site for locating attorney’s in your area with a focus in the type of law you need help with… many will only be for-fee attorneys. Your toughest challenge with a for-pay attorney will be getting their attention and presenting an interesting case so that they’d be willing to take you as a low cost or pro bono client.
