Ask The Taxgirl: I Don’t Qualify For The Making Work Pay Credit

Taxpayer asks:

I can’t claim the making work pay tax credit. Do I need to file schedule M anyway?

Taxgirl says:

Nope. If you’re sure that you don’t qualify, then no need to complete the Schedule M. Just be really sure – you don’t want to leave money on the table!

  1. I still have 3 children at home because of the economy. My eldest will be 26 this year and is trying to finish college. I was able to claim him on my taxes but he owed big. Is there some this we over looked. He only made 11,000. Also, will I be able to claim him as a dependent next year or will he be to old? I also have a daughter who also moved back in last year. Same situation..can’t make ends meet. I am supporting her with exception of the things she wants to buy. Made 9,000 last year. I did not claim her but would like to next year, she will be 25 this year. I don’t want her to owe like her brother does but I could really use the tax break since I have added a lot of expenses. What do you suggest? thank you very much for your help
