Companies Offer Promotions, Free Stuff To Ease Your Tax Day Stress

Kelly Phillips ErbApril 17, 2012May 18, 2020

Happy Tax Day!

It’s easy to focus on the whole writing a big check to Uncle Sam bit and have a sour taste in your mouth. But don’t despair! Tax Day also means free stuff. And free is good, right?

Take advantage of some of the promos and specials running today in honor of Tax Day. More and more will be popping up throughout the day so check back (especially closer to lunch and again at happy hour). I’ll highlight the updated entries for you to make it quick. Here’s what’s on tap so far:

Arby’s: Free curly fries – details on their web site or check out #ArbysTaxRelief on twitter.

New -> Banana Republic: Offering 30% off full priced items through 4/17/2012 at 11:59 PM ET at Banana Republic stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico and online. Code is BRTAX30. Some restrictions apply, check out the website for more details.

Bruegger’s Bagels: Big Bagel Bundle (a Baker’s Dozen and 2 tubs of Cream Cheese) for $10.40 from April 13 to April 17 (print your coupon from Facebook).

Cameron Hughes Wine: Free shipping for orders of 6 bottles of wine for tax relief week, April 10-17! Most wines retail from $8-30/bottle – selections available on their web site. Cheers!

Chevys: Picks up the tax on all guest meals today. Depending on where you live, this could be quite the coup.

Chilis: They tweeted @chilis: It’s officially Tax Day! After you write that check, come on in for a FREE App or Dessert at Chili’s!

Cinnabon: 2 Free Bites on Tax Day between 6-8pm (post: cinnamon is thought to be an aphrodisiac – totally not making that up)

New ->DiBruno’s: Tweeted @DiBrunoBros: Today is the last day for discount code “EFILE” for 20% off entire website & FREE SHIPPING! Don’t wait: http://www.dibruno.com/ (I will vouch for their cheese!)

New -> Hooter’s: Tax Day Special is 20 boneless wings for $9.99, dressing extra.

Maggie Moo’s: Free scoop of yogurt from 4pm to 7pm. Participating stores here.

McCormick & Schmick’s: Invites you to spend your refund at happy hour (yes, liberal use of that term) from 3:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. for discounts on apps drink specials including the Rummy Refund, the Clear Conscience, The Bloody Mary Tax Code and the Uncle Sam.

McDonald’s: Some McDonald’s franchises will offer customers who buy one Big Mac or Quarter Pounder with Cheese, an additional one for a penny. The promotion will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at select restaurants.

MyCorporation.com: In order to encourage entrepreneurs to start their businesses and protect their assets, MyCorporation.com is hosting a free incorporation or LLC on Tax Day. Choosing an appropriate business structure is very important when it comes to tax time.

New -> Palm Restaurant: Free Prime Bite® (appetizers) plus fun hand-crafted cocktails, draft beer and a great selection of wines by the glass when you visit Palm Bar. Coupon required (available on their web site). Offer not available at the London, Mexico City, Miami and Second Avenue New York locations or Palm Bar & Grille at JFK Airport.

Panda Express: Free Shanghai Angus Steak (coupon required)

P.F. Chang’s: Tweeted @pfchangs: Tomorrow is TAX DAY & we’ve got your tax day refund. All orders on Tuesday, April 17 will receive an automatic 15% Discount. Enjoy!

RA Sushi: Tweeted @RASushi: Tomorrow is tax day *sigh* but RA has got you covered! Tomorrow, enjoy extended happy hour from 3 p.m. to close at your favorite RA!

Seattle’s Best Coffee: Free samples of Seattle’s Best Coffee. You have to “like” them on Facebook to get your coupon.

Sonic Drive In: Offering half price drinks and slushies all day – check their website for details.

New ->Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes: BOGO $1 lunch or dinner valid on Tuesday, April 17 only. You’ll need to print a coupon or show the coupon from your phone (awesome) – available on their website.

US Grant Hotel: The Grant Grill, the bar and restaurant in the historic US Grant Hotel will be offering all of their signature cocktails, including their seasonal citrus cocktails (pictured above) for $4.17 on Tax Day when guests say the secret word: deduction. The normal price of the drinks is $12.

Remember that many of these outfits are franchises and may have different promotions or may not participate at all. If you’re concerned, give a quick call before you show up.

Some companies require a coupon or a “like” on Facebook and I’ve tried to link to those which do. If you are not sure, then err on the side of checking out websites (I’ve included links, where possible) first.

And if you have a lead, let me know. You can tweet @taxgirl, post a note on Facebook or email me (the old fashioned way).

Thanks – and happy returns! (like you didn’t see that bad pun coming!)
