It’s Not THAT Free A Country

Remember how people always say that you can’t shout “Fire!” in a crowded building? Well, here’s another rule to remember: Don’t threaten the folks at the Department of Revenue.

According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, a 55 year old man who was upset about a small business sales tax bill allegedly told a Department of Revenue supervisor he was going to do a drive-by shooting. He was subsequently charged with two counts of making terroristic threats.

Sheesh. Nobody likes to pay taxes. But the folks at Revenue don’t make the rules. Give ‘em a break.

That is frightening – after all, who makes terroristic threats but a terrorists? We already know that the government reserves the right to detain terrorists without charge – and anyone who donates money or renders aid to a terrorist can also be detained.

I know, I know… the government would never use the law against its own citizens in such a manner and so forth. However, it is frightening that they have the power to do so. This is what is meant by “freedom isn’t free”.
