Oh, I do love it when famous people talk about tax. (Stay with me on this one… It takes a little bit.)
Two of my favorite actresses/comic geniuses, Tina Fey (who made Forbes’ list of the Most Powerful Female Celebrities of 2012) and Amy Poehler, hosted the Golden Globes in January. During the show, they slung a few zingers at a number of the nominees, including my girls’ favorite singer, country star Taylor Swift (who also made Forbes’ list). Fey took a stab at Swift’s famous roller coaster love life, saying, “You stay away from Michael J. Fox’s son.” Poehler, on the other hand, encouraged Swift to “go for it” and the audience seemed to love it.
Apparently, Swift didn’t think the joke was quite so funny. In an interview for the April issue of Vanity Fair – she’s the issue’s cover girl – Swift made it clear that she wasn’t happy about the jab. Referring to Fey and Poehler, Swift told Vanity Fair contributing editor Nancy Jo Sales, “You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved, that said, ‘There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.'”
The remark caught both Fey and Poehler by surprise since they thought it was a harmless joke. And the two of them know how to be mean girls: Fey penned and co-starred in the Lindsay Lohan vehicle, “Mean Girls” in 2014, in which Poehler also made an appearance. But this wasn’t, they insisted, meant to be a “mean girls” moment. Fey told the entertainment show, ET News, “I did not see that one coming. It was a joke. It was a lighthearted joke.”
Poehler also responded publicly to the controversy, telling the Hollywood Reporter, “Aw, I feel bad if she was upset. I am a feminist, and she is a young and talented girl. That being said, I do agree I am going to hell. But for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff.”
Oh Amy, call me. Seriously. Tax stuff is never boring!
But I love her for saying that.
As for the relationship now between Swift, Fey, and Poehler? They may eventually kiss and make up in public but my guess is that they are never, ever, ever getting back together.
