Home Business, Home Business On The Range

Kelly Phillips ErbOctober 25, 2006November 14, 2019

The Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan tax research group based in Washington, D.C., recently released its State Business Tax Climate Index which ranks how “business friendly” the 50 state tax systems are.
Not surprisingly, the results showed that from a tax perspective, it’s generally more expensive to do business in parts of the northeast and less expensive to do business in parts of the northwest.

The best states were:

1. Wyoming
2. South Dakota
3. Alaska
4. Nevada
5. Florida
6. Texas
7. New Hampshire
8. Montana
9. Delaware
10. Oregon

And the worst states were:

1. Rhode Island
2. Ohio
3. New Jersey
4. New York
5. Vermont
6. California
7. Nebraska
8. Iowa
9. Maine
10. Minnesota

(Psst, Pennsylvania, we came in 22nd!)
