Getting To Know You Tuesday: Michael Breslin

Kelly Phillips ErbApril 24, 2007

It’s Getting to Know You Tuesday! Today’s guest is attorney Michael Breslin.

1.  Where are you now?

My home office.

2.  What’s your official title and what does it mean?
Proprietor.  It means I’m the boss.

3.  What books are on your night stand?
My kids’ books.  I consider myself lucky if I get a chance to read the newspaper.

4.  If you weren’t working in the tax profession, what would your dream job be?
Pro Golfer.

5.  What’s the last movie that you saw (DVD or in the theatre)?

Can’t remember, which means it was a kids’ movie, or if I was really lucky, a family movie with some adult humor which the kids don’t understand.

6.  Tax is a huge subject.  What’s your area of special interest?
Trusts & Estates.

7.  What’s the best tax or financial advice that anyone ever gave you?
Get paid.

8.  Coffee or tea?
Coffee.

9.  Name five artists on your iPod (or mp3 player).
I don’t have an mp3 player.  The kids just got them for Christmas.

10.  What would I be surprised to know about you?
The answers to #’s 9 & the 1st 1/2 of 11.

11.  What college did you attend (in what subject)?
University of Kentucky; & surprise, surprise: Accounting.

12.  If you had the opportunity to make one change in the tax code tomorrow – an extra credit, a disallowed deduction, whatever – what would it be?
That’s easy – a deduction for personal interest.

13.  What’s the best thing on TV right now?
Sopranos on A&E.  I don’t pay for HBO, so now I know what everybody’s been talking about.

14.  What do you think Congress will repeal first:  estate tax or AMT?
AMT.  It affects many more taxpayers during their lifetimes vs. relatively few after they’re dead.

15.  If Uncle Sam handed you a huge refund check right now, what would you do with it?
Pay down our mortgage.  I know, boring.

16.  Biggest tax newsmaker:  KPMG, Jenkens Gilchrist or Richard Hatch?
Richard Hatch in a landslide.

17.  And, other than taxgirl, what’s your favorite tax-related web site?
The IRS’.  I can get any form, instruction, publication, etc. for free w/o having to pay some vendor for the privilege.

Thanks, Michael!
