Crashing Someone Else’s Party

Kelly Phillips ErbJune 12, 2007

Part of the fun of blogging is meeting – even virtually so – some really great folks that you wouldn’t normally run into. And if you’ve been blogging for even a second, you likely know about Darren Rowse. I was psyched to have had the opportunity to guest over at his excellent blog, Problogger.net.

I posted about – what else – blogging and tax. If you have a second, take a trip over, check it out and leave me a comment or two.

Thanks, Darren!!

I also have a tax background and found your post at Problogger to be informative. As a relatively new blogger, I have a question for you about blogging and taxes. All of the affiliate sites require a social or federal ID number for tax purposes. I am uncomfortable giving out my social but have not have not applied for a federal id. Do you recommend that bloggers apply for a federal id #? What are the necessary steps to obtain one?

That is wonderful tax advice Kelly, thank you.

It’s amazing that American citizens still have to pay tax if they are living abroad, earning all income abroad and not having any access to the things US taxes pay for. Well, except “freedom” maybe, lol.
