Why Is My Rebate So Small?

Kelly Phillips ErbMay 2, 2008

I’ve received a ton of complaints about the size of the rebate checks once actually in hand. Apparently, a number of folks have not received the anticipated amount…

Be sure and check out this list of why your rebate might be less than anticipated and give the IRS tax rebate calculator a whirl.

To date, the most common mistakes in figuring the rebate that I’ve heard deal with gross income and tax liability. Remember, if you make too much or pay too little in tax, you might not be eligible for the full amount.

Too little, too late. The only way this rebate scheme can have any impact at all is for everyone to be out tomorrow, spending, spending, spending, spending.

Did you use a program like Turbo Tax or H&R block? If so you will receive a paper check in the mail. Atleast that is what the IRS told us when we called. If you want to speak to someone and find out where it is you can call 1-800-829-1040. Push 2 and then 3. You will hear music and eventually an IRS rep. will pick up……you may be on hold for awhile though.

I just received my stimulus rebate, but it listed my wive and I as having 0 qualifying children. My Tax return listed 2 daughters, ages 14 and 19. How do I get them to fix my stimulus rebate check?

Children have to be under 17 years old so your 19 year old would’nt qualify. If you want to speak to someone and find out what’s going on you can call 1-800-829-1040. Push 2 and then 3. You will hear music and eventually an IRS rep. will pick up……you may be on hold for awhile though.

I have one who is 14, but don’t understand why they listed me as having “0” qualifying children.

    betty boop,
Unfortunately it’s not my calculator – it belongs to the IRS. I don’t have any of that information – I would suggest calling the IRS if the calculator isn’t working.

We received only $600.00 and we have three children that were under the age of seventeen as of 2007. I thought we would get $900. extra dollars, but we sure were surprised, when the check arrived. I get a pension that’s taxable and a social security disability check. I know it’s over $40,000., but only the pension is taxable.
