More Tax Scams: One From Canada, Eh?

Kelly Phillips ErbOctober 12, 2010May 18, 2020

It seems that the spammers, phishers, scammers, and schemers are upping their game these days. In addition to the EFTPS scam making the rounds, I received word that there is a phishing scheme involving the Canada Revenue Agency.

The email read:

Online Refund Form

After the last annual calculation of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of 386.00.

Please submit the tax refund and allow us 3-9 days in order to process it.

A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons. For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.

To access the form for your tax refund, please click here>>

Notwithstanding the value of the Canadian dollar, skip this one. It’s a scam.

Each year an increasing number of taxpayers select to file their state taxes electronically, also known as e-filing. E-filing provides several advantages over the traditional paper filing process. One of the most major advantages is the speed in which tax refunds are received; taxpayers can get their refund directly deposited into their check or savings account in as few as 10 days
