Taxpayers Get Robbed, Literally

Kelly Phillips ErbOctober 13, 2010

Talk about your taxpayers literally being robbed… The Danish Tax Ministry has reported that at least fifteen computers and two telephones have been stolen from their offices in Christianshavn. The robberies happened at the end of September. No signs of a break-in were obvious, leading officials to believe that it was an inside job.

While the computers do contain taxpayer data, Tax Ministry press officer Morten Schoop insists that the information is safe. “All data is encrypted so there should be no danger of hacking into sensitive information.”

So bad enough, right? Nope. This is the FOURTH time this year that a tax office in Denmark has been robbed. Maybe a better security system is in order?

My notebook computer was stolen in Copenhagen on July 1. They must love stolen computers in Denmark.

With so many cases of identity theft and phishing, they should of purchased some kind of security. I hope no harm to the taxpayer is caused by this, it takes months even years to clear up the mess caused by identity theft. It makes me wonder if so much effort is placed into stealing something why can’t they put that effort into finding a job.
