Tax Issues and Elections

Kelly Phillips ErbNovember 3, 2010

According to most post election polls, voters cited the economy as the #1 factor in influencing votes – more than health care, more than abortion, more than homeland security, more than immigration, more than education.

This makes me wonder: what influenced your vote this year? If it was the economy, were taxes a factor? Or unemployment? Dish below!

Mine was definitely the economy. I voted pretty much dem across the board for state, but knew I wouldn’t get lucky enough to see even one get elected in Kansas. Now I just pray that they don’t bankrupt us more than they’ve done in previous years.

Just so you are aware, I was polled after voting yesterday and they only gave me three choices: the economy, healthcare, or war. Not saying I’d necessarily choose abortion or immigration, but we don’t actually know that Americans care more about the economy than anything else, but rather that they care more about the economy than healthcare or war.

Oh, and my reply was war, which I believe to be intrinsically connected to the economy, based on our spending history. Had I been given more choices, I may have wanted to say education.

My major concern is the economy. We cannot sustain a high unemployment rate, coupled with increased spending and engagement in two wars. Our main concern should be the “war ” we have in this country with jobs being sent overseas by big business, lack of support for small business (less than 100 employees), complete disregard for the middle class, and the ever increasing poverty group. No one wants a tax increase. Everyone wants less government spending so long as the inevitable program cuts do not affect them. Now that the tea party folks have had election success let’s see how they deal with these problems

My vote was for a more limited and responsive goverment. Here in Philadelphia, there is only a one party system of uninterrupted tax and spend Democrat rule. So, to counter that I voted for Toomey and Corbett. Corruption and tyranny is all about having a permanent governmental party. I did split my ballot to remove John Perzel a Republican from office. In order for the country to remain vibrant and democratic , it is nessary to keep the politicians on a short leash.

My votes were based on the Economy, the lack of Self Rights as Government becomes more intrusive and Health care. I DREAD the thought of the Health care Bill, as it stands, being put into force in 2012. What started as a means to allow CARE for ALL citizens of the USA…quickly became a means for Government, and Lobbyists, to dip their hands into the Billion Dollar, Pharmaceutical Company controlled, Cookie Jar. Guess that’s just ME.
