IRS Announces “Fresh Start” Assistance On July 16

Kelly Phillips ErbJuly 15, 2011

Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Not sure how to find answers to your tough questions?

The IRS wants to help. On Saturday, July 16 (yes, tomorrow), the IRS will have special Saturday hours (9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., your local time) at Taxpayer Assistance Centers across the country to provide help to taxpayers. Most of these open houses tend to have a focus – and this one is no exception. While the centers are open to any taxpayer who needs federal income tax help, Saturday is intended to target people who want to make a “fresh start” by taking steps to have liens withdrawn.

Not all states will have offices open: there are 74 offices open in 34 states, D.C. and Puerto Rico. You can find a center near you by visiting the IRS Saturday Hours web page.

To take advantage of the opportunity, just show up. No appointments are available for the Saturday open house and service will be provided on a first come, first served basis.

If you can’t make it into a center on Saturday, don’t forget that the IRS has local offices open to assist you during the week. You can locate one near you using your zip code here. You can also call the IRS toll-free at 1.800.829.1040 weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., your local time (Alaska and Hawaii follow PST).
