12 Days Of Charitable Giving (2015): Liberty’s Promise

Kelly Phillips ErbDecember 24, 2015January 14, 2022

It’s the fifth day of my 12 Days of Charitable Giving. Readers have suggested deserving charities over the past few weeks and I’ll be posting one a day for – well, 12 days (I’m clever that way). Today’s charity is Liberty’s Promise.

Liberty’s Promise encourages young immigrants in need to be active and conscientious American citizens. Liberty’s Promise aims to make the immigrant experience an affirmative one for young newcomers while instilling in them a sense of pride and support for American ideals of democracy and freedom. The organization runs after-school civics & internship programs for immigrant youth in Alexandria, Fairfax, Arlington, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, DC & Baltimore. To date, Liberty’s Promise has served more than 2,100 immigrant youth through Civics and Citizenship and Opportunities Plus.

So how can you help?

To make a one-time donation via credit card, you can click over to the website. Donations may also be sent by mail to:

Liberty’s Promise
2900A Jefferson Davis Hwy
Alexandria, VA 22305-3023

You can also support Liberty’s Promise while you shop. Amazon donates 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to Liberty’s Promise when you shop using this link.

You can also volunteer. Liberty’s Promise is always looking for guest speakers to attend after-school civics programs to talk about their immigration experience, civics, college, and/or careers and to help out at a job skills workshops. Please email info@libertyspromise.org for more information.

As always, you want to make sure that your donation is going to a qualified charitable organization. A search using the IRS’ Exempt Organizations Select Check reveals that Liberty’s Promise is on the list. To find out more about the work of the organization, check out their website or like them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter.

Remember: submissions to the 12 Days of Charitable Giving are made by readers and in most cases, I can’t personally vouch for the good work that these folks do. So be generous. But be smart. Do your homework.
