Getting To Know You Again

Guess what’s back? It’s Getting To Know You Tuesday (which I realize is an odd thing to announce on a Wednesday).

Getting To Know You Tuesday began as a response to my curiosity. When I started practicing, folks would tell me I didn’t seem like someone who would like tax. I started thinking about who that might be, and it dawned on me: Nobody really knows.

Tax professionals come from all walks of life. Some are tax preparers, while others are tax planners. Some focus on offshore work or audit, while others practice partnership tax or criminal tax defense. Some delve into tax policy, while others are content to flip through pages of tax statutes. Some are solos, and some are in-house at large companies. Some teach, some write, some speak. And some do a little bit of everything.

That’s one of the things that I love so much about the tax community. It’s also why I started the series, and it’s why I’m doing a reboot.

I love the idea so much that I’ve done variations at Forbes and Bloomberg. And now I’m bringing it back to Taxgirl.

Here’s how it works.

Each week or so, I’ll feature a tax pro. Who exactly fits that mold is, of course, subjective, but generally it’s someone with regular exposure to tax and accounting concepts in their job.

I’ll ask a set of questions, some serious and some not so much. The questions remain the same from one tax pro to another, updated on occasion to stay current.
