Robber Flees, Leaves W-2

Kelly Phillips ErbMarch 5, 2008

Police in Des Moines weren’t dusting for thumbprints after a robbery: they were checking tax forms.

A man robbed a Git-N-Go store in Des Moines last Friday after threatening a clerk, claiming that he had a gun in his jacket. He pocketed $115 for his troubles.

Apparently, he felt the need to pare down after the robbery, leaving his hat and jacket behind. Police found no gun – but they did find a form W-2 in the pocket of the jacket.

Police followed up on the information printed on the form, which belonged to a 25-year-old currently on probation for… theft. Additionally, the man’s appearance matched the description provided by the Git-N-Go clerk.

On the plus side, if the police return his form W-2, he can still file on time.

Well, now I’m sure that IRS is going to run a check on this guy to see if he’s been reporting his illegal income as well!
