It’s a wrap! Thanks to everyone who submitted charities for my 12 Days Of Charitable Giving 2017. I received some great suggestions this year. If you submitted your favorite charity this year and you don’t see it on the list, please try again next year. Here’s the complete list:
- Respite Care Charleston
- SecureFutures
- Helen Keller International
- Women’s Lunch Place
- K9s For Warriors
- Maggie’s Place
- Tandem
- HAVEN
- Institute for Veterans and Military Families
- Make-A-Wish International
- The Diaper Bank
- Bigelow Laboratory For Ocean Sciences
Remember that submissions to the 12 Days of Charitable Giving are made by readers, and in most cases, I can’t personally vouch for the good work that these folks do. So be generous but be smart: Do your homework.
You can always check whether a charitable organization is in good standing by using the IRS’ Exempt Organizations Select Check tool. Remember that certain organizations like churches and governmental units may not be listed. Additionally, organizations which use a “doing business as” or DBA, may appear on the list using a different name. If you don’t see a name on the list, reach out to the organization directly for more information.
Gifts made to qualifying charitable organizations by year-end are tax deductible for the 2017 tax year. Gifts made to qualifying charitable organizations after January 1, 2018, are still tax deductible for the 2018 tax year: Tax reform did not change that.
