Club Fed Seemed So Much Nicer In The Brochures

Kelly Phillips ErbMarch 16, 2007November 30, 2019

Here’s a newsflash:
Richard Hatch doesn’t like prison.

I know, stunning.

Hatch continues to maintain his innocence, claiming that CBS had agreed to pay his taxes (but of course!), despite his being convicted on tax evasion charges.  He claims that his stay at the Federal Correctional Institution in Morgantown, WV, a minimum security facility, is “horrendous”. If the name of that jail rings a bell, it’s the same facility where former U.S. Representative Bob Ney (Ohio) is sleeping – 12 to a room – after being convicted on corruption charges stemming from his association with lobbyist Jack Abramoff. The facility jokingly referred to as “Club Fed” is located a few miles from the WV/PA border and houses approximately 1,300 inmates.

Apparently, life is rough at Club Fed, but not as rough as Hatch’s prior jail. At the Plymouth County Correctional Facility in Plymouth, MA, he was reportedly forced to endure television broadcasts of The Jerry Springer Show every day. Horrors!
