It’s Fix the Tax Code Friday!
This week, Congress approved a spending bill with all kinds of expenditures tucked away, hidden from the glare of taxpayers. As taxpayers, we have little control over this kind of discretionary spending. It’s been suggested that taxpayers ought to have the option to earmark specific percentages of tax to causes. The theory behind this idea is that such an apportionment would indicate to Congress and the President what issues are important to taxpayers, and what issues deserve funding (as well as the obvious, what issues don’t deserve funding). So today’s Fix the Tax Code Friday question is:
Should taxpayers be able to specifically state on their tax return where their dollars are to be spent (i.e. defense, education, immigration)?
