So even as I was writing the story about the IRS’ audit of Harborside yesterday, I couldn’t make sense of it. It felt so heavy-handed on the part of the IRS that it had to be part of some bigger mandate – this was no mere tax audit. I got my answer this morning when I received an email linking to this story, alleging a massive effort by the feds to shut down medical marijuana pot dispensaries in the state of California.
Even if you don’t follow about tax policy (how could you not?) and have no opinion about medical marijuana, you should care about this one, folks. This is a potentially huge question about the rights of individual states and the boundaries of the federal government. Huge.
