So… I met CPA Mom at BlogHer. She is wonderfully funny. And a certified public accountant. The two don’t seem like they’d fit. She graciously agreed to participate in my Getting to Know You Tuesday. There were vodka tonics involved and apparently, she doesn’t drink them (hmm).
So, onto the interview…
1. Where are you now?
VIRGINIA (right, right now? at home)
2. What’s your official title and what does it mean?
Our firm is so small, we do not have titles; on my blog, I’m CPA Mom; also Soccer Mom Angela; also? Mommy (ad nauseum) to my kids
3. What books are on your night stand?
Many, many discipline/raising children books that I hope to read and learn the secret of good parenting from. One day. Also a book I need to read for a book review for Mother-Talk. I just finished Paula Deen’s autobiography “It Ain’t All About the Cooking” and LOVED IT.
4. If you weren’t working in the tax profession, what would your dream job be?
Chef/Baker. I love to create through food.
5. What’s the last movie that you saw (DVD or in the theatre)?
While convalescing at home, I watched a dreadful movie called Shag and also the very funny Bringing Down the House (Queen Latifah whom I adore). I have some netflix movies here to watch next: The Departed, X-Men 3 and Music & Lyrics. Last movie theatre movie was Harry Potter!!
6. Tax is a huge subject. What’s your area of special interest?
I hate tax. All of it. I’m an auditor.
7. What’s the best tax or financial advice that anyone ever gave you?
To never use credit or do my own taxes. Too bad I never took that advice.
8. Coffee or tea?
I am a coffee addict.
9. Name five artists on your iPod (or mp3 player).
Celine Dion, Brad Paisley, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, Josh Groban, Dixie Chicks
10. What would I be surprised to know about you?
That deep inside, there’s a skinny person dying to get out. And that I’ve been married three times. And I have four tattoos
11. What college did you attend (in what subject)?
Southern Illinois University. Bachelor’s in Accounting, Master’s in Business Administration
12. If you had the opportunity to make one change in the tax code tomorrow – an extra credit, a disallowed deduction, whatever – what would it be?
I abolish the whole thing. Straight tax.
13. What’s the best thing on TV right now?
The Food Network. Animal Planet. I do not have time to watch individual shows. No addictions there…
14. What do you think Congress will repeal first: estate tax or AMT?
I have no idea. It’s not like those numb nuts are logical.
15. If Uncle Sam handed you a huge refund check right now, what would you do with it?
Pay off debt. Put away money for my kids’ private schooling. Go on an overseas vacation. Buy a new computer. Help my mom out.
16. Biggest tax newsmaker: KPMG, Jenkens Gilchrist or Richard Hatch?
Richard Hatch? No idea.
17. And, other than taxgirl, what’s your favorite tax-related web site?
There ARE other tax sites? I thought you were the alpha and omega for tax. Still do.
Aww. I’m blushing.
Thanks Kelly! It was great meeting you and this was fun. I think I’d change some answers….it’s been a while since I filled this out. I’ll get your interview up this week too.
Love ya!
There were vodka tonics involved and apparently, she doesn’t drink them (hmm).
The vodka tonics, lively attitude despite being an accountant, etc. all made sense when I read that she attended Southern Illinois University.
SIU students are called “Salukis,” named for a remarkable dog that can still win speed races against greyhounds even after drinking a pail of vodka tonic. Being able to excel professionally while partying was a requirement for graduation.

Sean – I was not a Saluki. I attended the Edwardsville campus, thus, I was a Cougar. And I was working 4 jobs – partying was not something I had time for!
