Congress To Create Digital Archive For Tax Legislation

Kelly Phillips ErbJanuary 30, 2010May 19, 2020

An effort is underway to bring tax legislative research into the 21st century. The Joint Tax Committee, a non-partisan research arm of the Senate Finance Committee and House Ways and Means Committee, is working on a project to digitize tax legislative documents creating a searchable digital archive. This would include not only JCT publications – which is among the best analysis and data available – but will also include tax committee legislation, mark ups, hearings, reports, conference reports and more. Some of the documents being catalogued date back to 1926 when the JCT was established. At the very least the archive is meant to provide legislative history research tool – and it’s free. My guess is there are some paid products out here but not on this scope. Score one for the tax geeks. Currently JCT hopes to launch something this spring.

Thanks much to today’s guest blogger, John F. Kelly, Jr. from the Cornerstone Government Affairs, for keeping us apprised.
