Despite weather conditions that have kept federal employees home for a fourth straight day in Washington, DC, the IRS claims that the blizzard won’t slow them down this tax season. TaxProf blog points out that many returns are actually processed outside of DC in such garden spots as Fresno and Kansas City.
And despite the fact that this is officially the snowiest winter in Philadelphia’s history, I can report that the mail is running. My kids were thrilled to see their soggy Valentines delivered in the middle of yesterday’s blizzard (that, dear USPS, is dedication, in comparison to FedEx who decided to deliver my packages late on Tuesday in “anticipation” of the storm). So as long as you can get to a mailbox (I couldn’t see the one on my street last night), your tax return will be winging its way to a warm IRS processing center.
Of course, if you e-file, you don’t even have to leave the house.
Stay warm and stay safe!
Wow! what a pic. You really have to commend the people that deliver the mail, the packages, and still get your taxes to you on time! LOL. Well, I ranted about my tax return results yesterday. I am sure I will be checking out your site for advice on how to make it better (add assets & deductables?).
BTW, we are experiencing 70-80 degree weather over here in So. Cal.
I don’t buy that. My federal return was accepted by e-file on Feb 2 with an direct deposit date of Feb 12. As of right now, I have not receive it and my bank doesn’t even see it pending. When I checked the website the date was moved back to Feb 23. For the past 3 years in a row, i have filed the same way and always got my refund deposited according to the IRS e-file Refund Calendar. I don’t believe it is a coincidence that after a major blizzard in the North East my return has not come in when expected. I am not the only one, my bank reports that many people were expecting their return yesterday and did not get it. I’d like to hear if others experienced this.
Ditto to Jennifer Ray’s Comment, I was expecting my direct deposit to hit last friday or the week before that. Im guessing the snow has most likely caused a delay to atleast some returns.
Ditto to Jennifer Ray’s Comment. I was expecting the same thing and filed the 2nd and was told the 12th. Nothing on the 12th.
I got an email on the 13th from the company that my tax program used that is suppose to deposit the money in my account. It was a blanket email that said, “Thank you for selecting ***** to process your income tax refund. ****** has not received your IRS refund this week as expected. We expected to receive your IRS refund on 02/12/2010. Since we only receive IRS deposits once a week, the next opportunity for us to receive your refund is one week past the expected funding date shown above. We will not have any additional information until that time.”
I also checked out the IRS page and I got the same answer as the 23rd. Guess what?! The 23rd isn’t a Friday. So does this mean I’ll see funds on the 19th or not? Here I was thinking I did an awesome thing, and got my taxes really early, and alas. Doesn’t seem to matter.
