The IRS has announced that they are seeking applicants for the Advisory Committee on Tax Exempt and Government Entities (ACT). The ACT is an organized public forum for discussion of issues between officials of the IRS and representatives of exempt organizations and related communities. Individuals, organizations, and groups affiliated with employee plans, exempt organizations, tax exempt bonds, and federal, state, local and Indian tribal governments, are encouraged to nominate individuals for membership on the ACT.
Vacancies exist in the following areas:
- Employee Plans – two vacancies
- Exempt Organizations – two vacancies
- Tax Exempt Bonds – one vacancy
- Indian Tribal Governments – two vacancies
- Federal, State and Local Governments – three vacancies
To apply, fill out an application (downloads as a pdf), or send a letter with your name; other name(s) used and date(s) (required for FBI check); date of birth (required for FBI check); city and state of birth (required for FBI Check); current address; telephone and fax numbers; and e-mail address, if any, together with your qualifications for membership. Applications should also specify the vacancy you are interested in. Applications will be accepted through December 1, 2010. Be advised that applicants must go through a clearance process before selection by the Department of the Treasury. That process includes, among other things, pre-appointment and annual tax checks, and an FBI criminal and
subversive name check, fingerprint check, and security clearance.
If you are selected by the Department of the Treasury for one of the positions, you will serve a two-year term beginning in June 2011. ACT members are not paid for their time or services but they are reimbursed for travel-related expenses to attend working sessions and public meetings.
