12 Days of Charitable Giving: Region 10

Kelly Phillips ErbDecember 22, 2010

The nominations are in for the 12 Days of Charitable Giving 2010. Our eighth of twelve charities to be featured this year is Region 10 Community Support Services, Inc., which provides services and support to people who have developmental disabilities or acquired brain disorders.

Here’s what our nominee had to say:

Region 10 is one of the “area agencies” in the state of New Hampshire that provides supports and services to Developmentally Disabled adults and children (and to those with acquired brain disorders). It is an independent agency and not part of state government. (I sit on the Board of Directors and it is one of my designated charities for yearly giving). Region 10 receives most of its funding from state Medicaid dollars, but that limits what it can do for the consumers of services. Charitable donations to Region 10 help the agency to help families access benefits, receive emotional support and to secure outside resources and services. A gift of $25 will provide a family caregiver with an hour of respite care. $50 will help an individual get dental care (most routine dental care is not covered by Medicaid). $100 can help sponsor an individual to participate in a self advocacy group. $300 will send a child to summer camp. Region 10 is an organization that strives hard every day to provide essential services to those who cannot handle their activities of daily living without assistance. The extra funds that Region 10 receives from donations allows the agency to provide extra services and benefits that make the lives of those served by the agency even better.

You can check out upcoming events for Region 10 here. There’s a big carnival coming up later in winter which I’m mentioning even though they are giving away Patriots and Sox prizes…
