There's a (Tax) App for That!

Kelly Phillips ErbJanuary 18, 2011

With filing delays affecting many taxpayers this season, you may be itching to know in advance what your return might look like… TurboTax has announced that it has an app, the TaxCaster Mobile, that will calculate your anticipated tax liability (or refund!) on your iPhone or iPod Touch. You can download it from the iTunes store for free.
If you don’t have an iPhone or iPod Touch or don’t want to figure it out on your phone, TurboTax has an online version for free.
The calculator uses a bit of data to figure out your refund or liability so you’ll need your tax information on hand. It’s not meant to be exhaustive – just offer you a ballpark estimate of what will be on your 2010 tax return. But if you’re one of those taxpayers who needs to know in advance what your return is going to look like, check it out.
(Disclaimer/Caveat/Wanted You to Know: As always, in the event that I have an interest or receive a benefit from touting or announcing a product, you’ll be the first to know: my goal is to be as transparent as possible. During tax season, I’ll be passing along info about products and companies that might be of interest to my readers. If it’s anything beyond informational, it will be made clear to you. This is not one of those times.)
