I have free tax software packages to give away to readers this week. H&R Block has donated six versions of its At Home Online Premium version (federal only). The code is valued at $55, which should cover your federal tax return and sales tax. Entering the code will reduce the total fee by $55.00; if you add on services, those are on you (the company advises that the the cost of one or more state filings is an additional $34.95 each).
I’m going to give away five packages here on the blog – and one more on Facebook.
And since I’ve made you work all tax season, this one is easy and fun. All you have to do is answer the following question:
Post your recommendation below. It can be as fun and far-fetched as you want but it *must* remain clean. We’ve discussed this before and you know my mother could be reading, so keep my comment policy in mind. Along those lines, I’m not promising that the IRS Commish is reading but then I don’t know that he isn’t…
Of course, there are some contest rules. I’m an attorney, remember? Here they are:
- Post your answer in the comments section below. I love my Twitter followers and Facebook fans (muah!) but for this particular giveaway, tweets and FB comments will not be counted.
- For purposes of the giveaway, your comment must be entered (even if it doesn’t show up) by the end of Sunday, March 27, 11:59 p.m. EST.
- Don’t panic if your comment doesn’t show immediately. If it goes to moderation because, for example, you’re new here, the time stamp on your comment is what counts.
- Enter as many times as you’d like but you must leave a different comment each time. My normal comment policy applies. I have standards, you know.
- You must leave a valid email address (it will not be made public) with your comment so that I can contact you if you are a winner.
- I’ll choose five winners at random using a random number generator.
- Pingbacks and trackbacks, while appreciated, won’t count for purposes of the giveaway.
- One winner per tax season. Feel free to post a comment if you’ve already won but only one free software package per person – let’s spread the love around.
Let the fun begin!
A tax lottery. Individuals only. Cost $20 to enter. Prize: 100 individuals would be awarded a tax fee life, never to pay income tax again. Drawing would take place on April 15th.
IRS – Our nation’s #1 agency since 1862!!
To our customers “Pay or we’ll shoot.”
Your refund awaits!
Come and file your taxes now!
Please don’t hesitate!
(Already filed my taxes so I don’t need the software… a freebie entry, lol)
The IRS and government in general should make a website that shows, based on your age, amount of taxes payed, and location, a rough estimate of what your taxes “look like”. Maybe a pie chart that shows you’ve paid __ into Social Security, ___ has gone towards defense, etc. I think they’re worried that if people see how much they’ve paid they’ll go mental, but in the end, I believe it would make citizens more aware of their role and more informed about what they want changed about it.
Which is probably why they never will.
