As tax season draws to a close, I’ve been asked a number of times about the most common question I’ve heard from taxpayers this year. It’s not even close: one question has commanded the most attention all season.
It isn’t about dependents or exemptions. It isn’t about deductions or expenses. It’s about a credit and a temporary one at that. The actual question I’ve been getting is “Where can I find the Schedule M for 2011?”
The answer is a simple, “You can’t.” It doesn’t exist. Poof, gone. For 2011, there is no Making Work Pay Credit and thus, no Schedule M. For more on the defunct credit – and its replacement – check out this prior post, 9 Things to Know About the Making Work Pay Credit and Payroll Tax Cuts.
