Ewwww… Something doesn’t smell right.
Former Governor Blagojevich who is accused of attempting to sell the US Senate seat left vacant by President Obama, appeared on Good Morning America on Monday. His impeachment trial began yesterday – but Blagojevich had other plans. He skipped the trial to make the media rounds.
Blagojevich has maintained his innocence, claiming his impeachment is “all about raising the income tax in Illinois before Memorial Day.” So it’s all about taxes, is it?
No, when the Federal indictment comes down, probably in April, 2009, people will see that is one of the many charges against him. One of the charges against him in the impeachment trial deals with him giving Illinois horse racing a lot of state money for which he wanted a very large contribution, which he did receive. The horse racing industry claims it can’t compete against the gambling boats in Illinois without state money. Hard to believe we’re only the 11th most corrupt state.
I have to agree with Ed, the selling of the senate seat is only 1 of 13 charges brought against him for the impeachment hearings. the media blitz is a smoke screen for something, not sure for what. Impeachment proceedings, I don’t think it is called a trial because it is political not legal, are just to determine if the senate feels he has abused his power. If you look at what Blagojevich has done during his term I believe the facts will speak volumes and I have not heard what was on the tapes.
It is interesting how you stated “Former Governor Blagojevich”, are your trying to tell us all something?
dg – Perhaps I’m prescient? Or just getting ahead of myself…
Ed and dg,
Thanks for your comments. I actually had no idea about his other woes. It all sounds like a crazy movie, doesn’t it?
That’s only part of our nightmare. The Gov’s wife Patti, is the daughter of a powerful alderman in the City of Chicago. Before he married Patti, Rod was a nothing. The father in law (who he mentioned on the View) made Rod a rising political star. Then Rod was elected governor and had no need for the father in law and to prove it, Rod closed a waste site owned by a cousin of the alderman.
They haven’t spoke since the alderman’s wife died a little over a year ago.
A number of people think Rod naming Roland Burris as senator and all the interviews are an attempt to get just one possible Federal jury member to feel sorry for him and get him off on his Federal charges.
Plus, there a chance the Fed may go after Patti for some real estate commission she received from (currently waiting in Federal jail for sentencing) Rod favor fund raiser Tony Rezko.
