I am a small business owner. I am a sole practitioner. I feel I personally pay plenty in taxes. My employees don’t have benefits. They have jobs. I can’t afford to pay benefits. But I expect to pay more in employer taxes.
I cannot imagine with the size of the Act being implemented, that the government is not going to have to raise taxes to pay for it all. One thing you are not hearing, is any suggestion that Medicare part D be revisited so the government can negotiate the price of prescription drugs (Thanks, Dan.)
I don’t believe anyone goes to Washington to serve the common good or public interest anymore. It is all about power. Washington does not care how much anything costs. They don’t have to pay for it themselves. So why should they care?
Our Governor is staunchly conservative and in many instances, slow to take action on something he disagrees with or is not popular, unless and until Washington forces his hand. Still, I hail from a state that does not (yet) have a personal income tax. I wonder just how long that is going to last when everyone gets (1) public education and (2) healthcare.
Look at where Texas stands in terms of education relative to other states and two things can be pondered; is Texas a nation of Gomer Pyles? (no!) If that is the quality of education in Texas with its budget, what is going to be the cost and the quality of healthcare in Texas?
Again, I think the price of poker is going up. It has to. And, I think it is avoidable. Taxes, education, healthcare, crime, drugs, immigration, these are all big issues that we are wasting our time on discussing. These issues get resolved if America secures its borders. Otherwise, we are spending more and more money, talking about all of the problems accept the elephant in the room, and doing nothing about the one thing that would do the most good.
