Judges Say Good Things About Snipes

Kelly Phillips ErbApril 24, 2008

Unfortunately, those judges that did say good things on Snipes’ behalf don’t really matter in this case…

Yep, TV judges Joe Brown and Greg Mathis offered character references for Wesley Snipes for his sentencing hearing.

Judge Joe Brown noted that he was writing “not as a celebrity” (good because I don’t know that I would go that far) but as a “humble citizen” and asked for leniency. He called Snipes “one of those rare individuals possessed of an extremely developed social conscience.”

Judge Greg Mathis echoed those sentiments by writing that Snipes “has become educated on the pitfalls of being generous, trustworthy and honest” and that his “honest nature” got him into trouble. Judge Mathis did not avoid the “celebrity” by sending his letter on logoed stationery.

Hmm. No Judge Judy? In Florida? He doesn’t have a chance…

snipes had a lousy lawyer. if snipes’ accountants were jailed because of their practices, and Snipes knew nothing of it, how could Snipes get the max? sure, something for not filing a return. professionals (drs, lawyers,) get sued all the time for their ineptitude. why penalize the student for having a stupid teacher?
