Snipes Says “Not Guilty” & “Happy Hanukkah!”

Kelly Phillips ErbDecember 11, 2006November 30, 2019

In yet another twist to the Wesley Snipes tax trial, Mr. Snipes has turned himself in to authorities in the US. Snipes took a break from filming “Gallow Walker” in Namibia to answer federal charges, including tax fraud. A judge granted Snipes $1 million bond after he pleaded not guilty to the charges. Snipes will be allowed to leave the country to finish the filming of the movie but must return by January 10, 2007. At that time, he will be asked to relinquish his US passport and his travel will be restricted while he awaits a hearing on the charges.

Snipes’ attorney, Billy Martin, said in a statement, “We believe the evidence in the case will show he has been the victim of unscrupulous tax advice. And this trial will help vindicate him.”

In contrast to his accusatory tone in emails to the Orlando Sentinel, Snipes appeared calm and cooperative. You can see his comments with his attorney on video here.
