Cell-ebrate Good Times, C’mon!

Kelly Phillips ErbApril 2, 2007May 15, 2020

The confusion surrounding the infamous telephone excise tax continues to mount. Next on the list? A number of folks have the impression that, in order to claim the tax, you have to have a land-line. Not so. Cell phone users may qualify, as well as fax and internet phone customers. Why? The refund of the three-percent tax applies not only to long-distance service billed between 2/28/2003 and 8/1/2006 but to bundled service, as well.

If you’re not sure whether this applies to you, check your phone bill. Phrases to look for include:  Federal, Federal Excise 3%, Federal Excise @ 3%, Federal Excise Tax, Federal Tax, Fed Excise Tax, and FET.
